Why Diets Will Never Work
Just wanted to give you some insight if you are ever feeling like you are back tracking or you are feeling restricted. You are NOT on a diet, you are establishing a new way of eating and eating for the goals and activity levels that you personally have. If you were on a diet there would be restrictions in place and strict rules you would have to follow. 9 times out of 10 you would fail that diet, and you are not alone. For years we have been fed lie after lie that this diet is better than this diet, low carbs is better for you or high fat is better for you. There is just no scientific evidence to back any of that up. What we do know is that focusing on whole foods, and good amounts of protein will always yield good results.
In a study put out by Stanford university, they wanted to see what impact a different diet would have on a group of people. They took half of the group and gave them a low carb diet, and the other half a low fat diet. All they told them was to keep to the guidelines of low fat or low carbs and to eat whatever they wanted. After the 6 months was up they gathered back all the data and the results of each group were almost identical to one another. The only huge factor was that if someone stuck to the diet it worked. This means that if you want low carb it will work, if you want low fat it will work. The main thing you need to remember is that you need to pick something that you are going to stick to.
If you choose to eat like a child (and it’s fun trust me) and eat things like candy and treats all the time you have to be willing to accept the fact that you are going to gain some unwanted weight and maybe not feel the best you could. If you want to eat only vegetables (not fun at all) you have to be willing to have a strict lifestyle that will cause you to miss out on some things. Those are 2 extremes and the best thing you can do is meet yourself in the middle.
Let’s keep things very simple. The more simple the easier to follow. If you want to lose weight and feel better here are some easy things to follow:
Have most of your food be protein
Have 80% of your food be whole foods. Limit processed or fast foods.
Drink Plenty of water
Sleep 8hrs a night
Workout 3x a week and move 10k steps daily
I have said all of these before and I will continue to say them because it is the best way to lose weight and feel good. It is not going to change, they are NEVER going to come out with a magic pill.
Keep it simple and don’t try to get ahead of yourself. Look at your data and find out what you need to work on to see improvement and make it happen.
